Mon'ters in da Cwoset!
Speaking of Where's God When I'm Ssscared?, Jay has recently decided that there are monsters in his closet. Nice blue monsters, but monsters nonetheless. "Mine 'cared." Paul and I both suggested that Jay's good friend Dogasaur could protect him from the mon'ters, but to no avail.

For a while, he would come downstairs several times before going to sleep. The solution?

Junior Asparagus, of course! Thank you, Aunt Cathy!! Junior's a lifesaver! Now if I ever actually hear Junior singing "God is Bigger [Than the Bogeyman]" to Jay at night...

Well, OK Then!
Last week, Isaac had a bad diaper rash. He was very sad at bedtime, so I held him while Paul and Jay said prayers. I sang him a few songs (don't even TRY to sing anything that's not "Jesus Loves Me" or "Jesus Loves the Little Children" around Jay when he's grumpy, BTW), after which he sat up, looked at me, and pointed to his crib. "Are you ready to go to bed?" "Aa." (Isaac-speak for yes) So I put him in his crib and he lay down and went to sleep!

Tech Support for Two-Year-Olds
This morning, Jay came downstairs with me while I was getting ready for work. After I prepared his "Oatdeal!" (and investigated his rummagings in the kitchen drawer), I got into the shower. Shortly thereafter, I heard the door creak open and the THUD THUD THUD of toddler feet. I suggested to Jay that he start a video. His current favorite, Where's God When I'm Sssscared? was already in the VCR, I pointed out to him, and he went off to watch his VeggieTales. Shortly thereafter, the creak announced Jay before his plaintive "Need hewp! Need hewp!" We've discussed the "triangle" button, but the VCR was off, and we haven't discussed the power button. I advised him to take the video out (something he surely knows how to do) and to push it back in. The little face bobbed back behind the door, and I expected some uninterrupted detangling time. Wrongly, as it turned out, and this time I answered the "Need hewp!"s with, "Did you take the video out and put it back in?" "Yeah." "Did you turn the TV on?" "Nope!" "Try turning the TV on."

It seemed to have worked. I just hope the video wasn't past the part where Bob says, "Hey, kids!" out of nowhere. It cracks me up how that startles the boys every time =]

Long Time, No Post
I've been more than a little short of energy lately. I just had my midyear review at work a week ago yesterday, and I'm afraid it was neither encouraging nor informative. At least it was uninformative enough not to be discouraging!

Meantime, I'm having to eat ALL THE TIME.

Yep, number three is on the way!!!

I think the due date should be about a week into February, so I'm guessing the latest we'll be greeting the new little one would be the first of February, which would put him/her 23 months behind Isaac.

Never a dull moment around here, blogly appearances to the contrary!

That's What I Get for Being Lazy

I just wasted untold hours trying to let Google video post the video of Isaac walking for me. I ended up going back to the other video I posted, copying it, and replacing the ID. Took like 5 minutes total, including digging up the old post.

Anyway, that video was taken during our stay at Houghton College, Paul's (and his parents') alma mater. We went for the first half of Alumni College week, but had to be back to see my family, who (almost) all traveled down to North Carolina Thursday and Friday of that week. We were able to visit the non-traveling part of the family on our way south from NY. Jay and his (now) four-year-old cousin had a nice time. Jay got out of the van, went straight to Beka, and gave her a hug. It was very sweet =]

Jay also had a super time at Houghton with his paternal grandfolks. Isaac warmed up by the last day or so, but he's not the extrovert that Jay is, and I think being away from home threw him a bit as well. He did much better the second part of the week, and seemed to be especially fond of his Aunt Mindy.

A First for Isaac
Isaac surprised me and distinguished himself as quite possibly the only child in his nursery to successfully use the potty. We haven't been having a whole lot of luck getting Jay to tell us when he has to go (though he will now and then, at least for number ones...), so I've been pretty skeptical when Isaac has asked to use the potty that much of anything would come of it. Anyway, this is the second time Isaac has said "Potty", answered in the affirmative when I asked if he wanted to use the potty, AND headed for the bathroom. I decided to go with it since Paul and Jay were out on a walk.

He was not interested in using the little floor potty, so I lifted him up onto the Elmo seat on the big potty, and the first thing he did was aim down. This is a child who's been watching big brother! Isaac will happily brush his teeth for the better part of an hour, and he was in no rush to be done with the potty. Sure enough, ten minutes or so into the process, the waterworks began. I had to help him aim, since he had stopped aiming some time ago, and I didn't catch him right at the beginning, so there was some clean-up involved, but it was not bad at all for his first try at the toilet! Hooray, Isaac =]

There's been a whole lot going on, including travel by us and our families, all kinds of walking by Isaac, etc., but I'm too tired to say much more right now. Hopefully it will be soon!
