Wit
My M-i-L sent a link to this fascinating video on YouTube about a mega-dairy farm. Two of the most recent comments were:

Dyann301:
Humans are not meant to drink COW'S milk. We are meant to drink HUMAN milk when we are babies and then stop as we become adults like other mammals do. Common sense will tell you that. This is a money making business, so naturally the business is going to make it seem as if drinking milk is good.

draxonus:
That is one of the stupidest things I have ever read in a Youtube comment, and that's saying something.

Pithy, eh?

Not My Fault
It's not. I could name names, but let's just say that someone pointed me towards a fabulous book which has led to my whipping up FIVE batches of homemade bread in the last eight days. On top of that, someone else gave me leave to set up a blog for her wedding. Meantime, I've had oral surgery, spent an evening here and there working on my paying job, been hanging out with friends one weekend, family the next, and I gave in and joined facebook. I'm also contemplating starting a Mebane historic preservation community. 'Cuz I don't have enough to do...

One small warning: if you make babka, you have little choice but to proceed with meringues. I probably would have skipped the whole thing if I had known I'd end up getting out the mixer, but the meringues are fairly good, and I'm hopeful the babka will be even better. We'll find out tomorrow!! Homemade bread is changing my life (but not enhancing my sense of personal responsibility, obviously!)...

Compliments to the Chef
The other week we went to Cici's Pizza after church. Paul and Isaac went for a walk while Jay, Daniel and I held the fort. Or the table anyway. Jay finished the food on his plate and announced to me that he was going to tell someone that he enjoyed his pizza and he'd be right back. I recommended that he tell the ladies behind the counter, so he trotted over and said, "I enjoyed my pizza." The woman right there asked him, "You'd like some more pizza?" "No. I already had some. I enjoyed my pizza!" Whereupon they asked him how old he was and seemed to be marveling in the fact that a 3-year-old could use the word "enjoyed". The couple one table over were watching and seemed to get a kick out of the whole proceeding as well =]

Cookies!
I was hungry, and Paul's away, the kids are in bed, so I baked chocolate chip cookies. Honestly, I've made better, but they're cookies, so how bad can they be (assuming, of course, that the proportions of baking soda and sugar aren't switched, which, I'm told, results in a delectable-smelling, utterly inedible batch of cookies)?

I also wanted to mention that I've had a really mild postpartum arthritis adjustment. I usually have knees the size of cantaloupes at some point, but I've had prednisone on hand, and when I've felt the swelling start, I took 5 mg and some ibuprofen, and before too much longer I feel better. It hasn't gotten out of control, for which I am very thankful!!
